NUCA Safety Instructor Train-the-Trainer Program

NUCA Instructor Train-the-Trainer Program

Are you a NUCA member who has training/instructor experience and is knowledgeable about excavation work and OSHA construction regulations?

NUCA is accepting applications for members interested in becoming an approved NUCA safety instructor.

NUCA Instructor Application Process

NUCA instructors are a select group of experienced individuals who possess knowledge of underground construction, OSHA regulations, and safety. To become a NUCA instructor, each individual must be a NUCA member in good standing and must submit an application and resume to NUCA’s Safety Department. Each applicant’s qualifications are reviewed by  NUCA's Safety Education and Training Subcommittee. Following review of the applications, a handpicked group of individuals are invited to attend the instructor training program(s). Upon completion of the instructor training program(s), instructors will receive a NUCA Instructor Manual and have access to the NUCA training materials, which include power point presentations, slides, and student materials.

To qualify as a NUCA instructor, applicants must have experience in the construction industry, be an OSHA instructor or possess a strong knowledge of OSHA standards, have had prior experience instructing classes or groups, and be willing to make a commitment to the industry. Prior to attending the instructor training program(s), NUCA membership is required or the applicant must be sponsored by and work for a NUCA member in good standing. Applicants employed as instructors for fire departments and other municipal rescue teams are eligible and do not have to be NUCA members, although their employers are encouraged to become institutional members.

Important note to applicant:  NUCA dues and the registration fees for the program must be paid in full prior to commencement of the instructor-training program or your invitation will be withdrawn. If payment has not been received, you will not be permitted to attend the training program and your slot will be given to an alternate applicant. Dues and registration may be paid by check or credit card.

The instructor programs that are currently being offered annually are for the NUCA Excavation Safety and Competent Person Training Program, and the NUCA Confined Space Entry Training Program. A separate registration fee is charged for each program, and attendees are responsible for their own travel expenses.

If you would like to be considered for the NUCA instructor programs, please submit an application.  If you have any additional questions, contact George Kennedy, Vice President, Safety, at (518) 885-2560 or e-mail   gkennedy@nycap.rr.com
