DIRTCGA’s annual analysis is based on what locators, contractors, and other stakeholders record on its website. Contractors need to report this information to CGA (through NUCA’s reporting tool) in addition to the hit reports required by utility owners or regulating agency. Other stakeholders regularly report their data to CGA, from their point of view, but contractors do not. So contractors are not accurately represented and continue to be reported as the leading cause of utility damages.

Recording hits and near misses and why—was the utility marked improperly, supposedly abandoned, or not on the map—is imperative to assure that contractors are correctly represented to their standing in these reports. All information recorded in the database is strictly confidential.
