Washington Summit

May 23-25, 2022
(Capitol Hill Visits, May 25)

Thank you to our almost 100 members for
traveling to Washington and
 holding over 80 meetings
with your lawmakers during the 2022 Washington Summit.

Your advocacy meetings are making a big mark in Congress
for NUCA and our industry.

The 2022 NUCA Washington Summit

As NUCA members, we must ensure that legislators understand the important role that our industry plays in keeping the country healthy, clean, and prosperous.

We want you to share your stories to persuade Congress that they must act to improve our nation’s underground infrastructure. Only you can deliver your personal expertise to your lawmaker's offices--they need to hear about your experiences. Those personal stories persuade lawmakers, especially when you are their constituent.

Washington Summit Highlights (Subject to Change):

  • Capitol Hill Visits (May 25) - Discuss What Matters to You with Your Senators and Representatives
  • Federal Issues - Presentations from Washington Insiders and Experts.
  • Discuss Indepth Our Industry's Top Issues: Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Implementation, Workforce Development, Private Activity Bond Reform, and Damage Prevention
  • Legislative Briefing - An In-Depth Look at the Key NUCA Issues Before Congress
  • Washington Nationals Baseball Game For Attendees
  • More Advocacy Activities To Be Announced!

"Infrastructure has been a hot topic in Congress, but we cannot leave it up to our legislators—WE are the experts! Our active involvement in the process will help us push the best legislation forward with adequate funding. This is no small task. Join us this fall in Washington, D.C., to ensure our collective voice is heard."

NUCA 2023 Washington Summit

NUCA will be holding the Washington Summit in late May 2023. Tentative dates are May 15-17, based on the anticipated Congressional schedule. However, those dates are subject to change because of the actual 118th Congress calendar which is expected to be released in late November 2022.
NUCA's 2021 Washington Summits

Our 75 attendees took our critical message on infrastructure to about 100 House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, making the first in-person Washington Summit since 2019 a success. Our members told lawmakers and their staffs to support the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (H.R. 3648) and pass it when it comes up for a House vote. Attendees also were able to relay to lawmakers and their staff the material shortages we're facing, as well as our workforce & labor challenges today and over the next decade. We were also able to extend to many members an invitation to visit our projects and see first-hand the results of their support for subsurface infrastructure projects in their districts and states.

More members of Congress attended our two evening social events than ever before at past Summits, making us proud that our industry is fast gaining influence in Washington. More and more lawmakers recognize subsurface infrastructure development is a winning issue for their 2022 elections.

The first 2021 Washington Summit was held Wednesday, May 26, 2021. The May 2021 Summit was a virtual experience like the Sept. 23, 2020 NUCA summit event because of the continuing closed office situation on Capitol Hill.

The May 2021 Summit held virtual educational sessions for members on these dates prior to the May 26th main event:
The May 26 Summit day started at 9:00amET with a virtual introduction to the day's events, a discussion of current advocacy initiatives, and then led by Chapters, participated in 91 scheduled meetings with House and Senate lawmakers held via Webex, Zoom, MS Teams, and other online platforms.

We hope you will be part of our legislative advocacy programs throughout this year and into the coming 118th Congress (2023-24).
